Pearls of the Abrolhos Black Lipped Oyster (Pinctada Margaritifera) These oysters create pearls with brilliant lustres and clean skins in a vibrant array of intense shades reflecting the changing hues of the Indian Ocean through the seasons. Black Pearls range in colour including deep greens, turquoise blues, sunset pinks, subtle bronzes, luminous silvers, shale greys and moonlight whites. Smooth skins and shimmering colours characterise these pearls making them truly unique. The Akoya Pearl (Pinctada Fucata) The Akoya Pearls are often referred to as the 'Original' cultured saltwater pearl and are generally white or cream with overtones of pink or silver. Akoya Oysters naturally settle in large numbers on our panels and were initially considered a pest like weed until trials were initiated in 2004. Latitude Pearls produce Akoya Pearls that range in size from 6 millimetres to 11 millimetres. Mabe Pearl Mabe Pearls are produced from the Penguin Oyster (Pteria Penguin) and the Black Lipped Oyster. Varying shapes are glued to the inside of the shell and nacre then lays over the top. Large in size and full of character they inspire jewellers and therefore unique pendants and rings are created. Keshi Pearl Keshi Pearls are created when the implanted mantle tissue separates from the nucleus, or when no bead is grafted into the oyster, or when the oyster rejects the bead but the piece of mantle tissue remains; generally baroque in shape. This is very similar to being a natural pearl.
